• Nigeria’s Premier Research Coordination Platform
Building Bridges. Creating Opportunities.
Transforming Africa.
We connect African research institutions with the right international partners, helping you access world class funding opportunities and build meaningful collaborations that create lasting impact.
Trusted by international research networks and collaborators across Europe, Israel, and Africa.
Building stronger international research collaborations
African institutions are producing world class research, yet many miss opportunities because building international partnerships can be complex.
We bridge that gap by helping researchers and institutions access global networks, create competitive collaborations, and participate as equal partners in major international funding programs.
We focus on:
• Partnership development and matchmaking
• Research consortium design
• Proposal coordination and support
• Long term institutional growth
— ABOUT US
WHO WE ARE
Africa Innovation Bridge (AIB) is a research partnership organisation based in Nigeria. We were founded to solve a simple problem: too many European consortia want a genuine African partner but don’t know where to find one that is truly ready.
So we built the bridge ourselves.
We work with established African research institutions — national institutes, universities, and field centres — that have the scientific credentials and operational capacity to contribute meaningfully to international research.
— OUR MISSION
Positioning Africa as a Global Leader in Research
Our mission is to bridge the gap between African research excellence and global funding opportunities. We bring together partners with genuine scientific capacity, document local infrastructure and expertise, and build direct relationships between African institutions, innovation hubs, and European research partners so every consortium we coordinate is competitive from day one.
We advocate for African-led structures and strategic leadership within global research ecosystems. From finding the right partners to coordinating the full proposal process and managing the project once it is funded, we handle the complexity so institutions can focus on what actually matters. The science. Every collaboration we build is designed to leave lasting capacity behind, not just a one-time result.
— WHAT WE DO
Six Pillars of Research Partnership Excellence
You can pick the services you need, or we can work together end-to-end. Here is how we help.
01
Consortium Design & Partner
Matching
We structure the partnership from the ground up — who does what, how work packages fit together, which African scientist or institution genuinely belongs in your consortium. African roles are built in from the start, not tacked on at the end.
02
International Grant Proposal Coordination
From Horizon Europe submissions to Research and Innovation Actions — we manage every stage of proposal development. You focus on the science. We handle the consolidation, compliance documentation, timelines, and submission.
03
African Partner Readiness
We work directly with African partners to define their scientific contribution, document their capabilities, and prepare them to stand as equals in the consortium. No surprises. No last-minute panic.
04
Horizon Europe Proposal Development
As experienced Horizon Europe consortium coordinators, we ensure African institutions lead as equal partners. From initial concept to final compliance and submission, we manage the logistics while you focus on the science.
05
Funding & Grant Opportunities
We align African institutions with the right international funding programmes through coordinated proposal development, partner alignment, and competitive positioning for major international calls.
06
Capacity Building & Dissemination
We make sure your research reaches the people who need it. Farmers, policymakers, other researchers. We help you build local research capacity that sticks around.
— WHO WE SERVE

Our Focus Areas
We support research collaboration across key global priority areas, including:
🌾 Food Security & Agricultural Systems: Strengthening crop resilience, soil health, and sustainable food production across climate-vulnerable regions.
🌍 Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability: Supporting science-driven responses to climate stress, land degradation, and environmental change across Africa and beyond.
🏥 Public Health & Medical Research: Advancing collaborative research in disease prevention, health systems, and biomedical science with African institutions at the centre.
🌿 Biodiversity & Ecosystem Resilience: Coordinating research that protects and restores Africa’s unique ecological systems and agrobiodiversity.
💻 Digital Transformation & Innovation Systems: Connecting African researchers with global partners working at the intersection of technology, agriculture, and development.
🔬 Science, Technology & Development Policy: Translating scientific research into evidence-based policy that shapes sustainable development at national and regional levels.
— CURRENT PROJECT
Our flagship research initiative — in action
A multi-institutional Horizon Europe RIA investigating whether native mycorrhizal fungi in Nigerian soils can predict and improve drought resilience in cassava and maize.
Science in Plain Language
Cassava and maize are staple crops for over 1.2 billion people. Climate change is bringing more frequent droughts, which can slash yields by 20–40%. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) help plants take up water — but their performance in real fields is inconsistent. We are asking: can soil microbiome composition predict drought outcomes in tropical smallholder systems?
THE RESEARCH INTEGRATES
- Soil microbiome profiling
- High-throughput plant phenotyping (PlantArray)
- Controlled drought physiology experiments
- Predictive modelling of crop performance
Flagship Initiative · Horizon Europe RIA
AMF Soil Microbiome & Drought Resilience Initiative
Multi-location field trials across three agro-ecological zones in Nigeria — collecting soil, root, and yield data to build predictive models linking soil composition to plant performance under drought.
Who Is Involved:
- Max Planck Institute (Germany) — molecular AMF mechanisms
- Agroscope / Univ. of Zurich (Switzerland) — soil microbiome ecology
- Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) — drought physiology & phenotyping
- NRCRI (Nigeria) — field trials and agronomy
- IRD (France) — rhizosphere biodiversity
Ready to build a strong international research partnership? Let’s talk.
Whether you are developing a research proposal, building a consortium, or seeking strategic scientific collaboration, Africa Innovation Bridge helps connect institutions, researchers, and funding opportunities into strong international partnerships.
4-Step Process:
1. You share your project idea, research goal, or collaboration need.
2. We schedule a short introductory call to understand the scope and alignment.
3. We review the opportunity and suggest relevant African partner profiles or consortium structures.
4. If there is a strong fit, we begin working together on the proposal or collaboration framework.
